Evaluation of correlation between severity of Liver disease and Lipid profile: A cross sectional Study

Objective: The main aim of our study was to evaluate the correlation between severity of liver disease and lipid profile.

Study design: It was a cross sectional type of study.

Place and Duration of Study: This study was carried out in a duration of 12 months from February 2019 to February 2020 in Medical departments Mayo hospital Lahore.

Materials and Methods: A total of 123 patients of either gender with the age greater than 18 years with the diagnosis of chronic liver disease were included in this study. Etiology was taken into account. Correlation between child Pugh class and lipid profile was studied.

Results: 38.01 ± 14.68 years was the mean age of these patients. Among 123 patients with CLD, 85% (104) were male and 15% (19) were female. In Class A, B and C total of 20% (24), (38%) 47 and (42%) 52 were present respectively. Total cholesterol level was 139.08±40.16 mg/dl, 141.30±51.54 mg/dl and 105.81±40.26 mg/dl in class A, B and C respectively. Mean value of low density lipoprotein in class A, B and C was 84.29±35.16 mg/dl, 88.55±48.13 mg/dl, and 76.67±79.19 mg/dl. Mean value of high density lipoprotein in class A, B and C was 34.42±14.67 mg/dl, 29.81±12.82 mg/dl and 21.23±11.73 mg/dl. Mean value of TG in class A, B and C was 109.17±64.04 mg/dl, 116.32±54.99 mg/dl and 90.06±53.35 mg/dl respectively.


Conclusion: According to the results of present study higher percentage of male patients as compared female suffering with chronic liver disorder is seen. 51-60 years was the mean age in which most of the patients were seen. Negative relation between child Pugh class and lipid profile was noted.
