Pinocchio: Vagrancy and the Politics of Disciplining
This paper studies the process of ordering and controlling the child vagrant in Carlo Collodi’s book The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883) along with its movie adaptation Pinocchio (1940) by Walt Disney. It tries to draw parallels with the socio-cultural contexts in which these texts were produced inorder to pry beyond the simplistic understanding of Pinocchio as a beloved puppet, and examine the latent politics in the texts that calls for a domestication of vagrant children.
