Antimicrobial Activity of Mg Metal Chetates of 1, 2 Naphthoquinone Oxime Derivatives

Mg metal chelates of 1, 2 Naphthoquinone 1-oxime, 1, 2 Naphthoquinone 2-oxime and 1, 2 Naphthoquinone dioxime were synthesized and well characterized. The antimicrobial activity of these ligands and their metal chelates was determined by well diffusion method against Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi. Metal complexation often inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Mg complex was most effective against Gram +ve bacteria at concentration 2.0 mg/ml. Metal chelates may be useful tools for the understanding of antimicrobial mechanism of 1, 2 Naphthoquinone on these bacteria.
