A Bibliometric Profile of DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology during 2015

Abstract


DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT) is one of the premier journals of library and information science being published on bimonthly basis, by Defence Science Documentation Centre, New Delhi, in India. This paper presents bibliometric profile of DJLIT during 2015. The present Bibliometric study was carried on 53 scholarly research articles published in DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology, during the year of 2015. The analysis covers various parameters like issue -wise distribution of papers, authorship pattern, reference sources, length of the papers, institute-wise distribution, country –wise distribution, state – wise distribution, major contributors & average number of references per paper, etc. A maximum number of articles (10) were published in issue number 3 and 4 (18.86 per cent). A maximum number of contributions are joint collaborations with 38 (71.69 per cent) articles. A maximum of 26 (49.06 per cent) articles contributed in the journal are on two author pattern, followed by 15 (28.31 per cent) articles as single authored. Most of the 92.48 % contributions are from India, 7.52 % contributions are from abroad and collaboration. A total of 18 states of India have contributed 49 articles to journal. Maharashtra emerging at top with maximum of 8 papers (16.33 %). The study revealed that majority of the authors preferred journals as the source of information providing the highest number of citations 491 (53.78%). Chennupati K. Ramaiah, Rushmanasab Gurikar, S. Gopalakrishnan, Somipam R. Shimray, and V. Senthil, having contributed 2 articles each in the Journal during the period under study. Only one editorial paper was published during the study. A maximum number of articles 48 (90.56%) contributed from universities & colleges. The maximum number of articles 41 (77.36 %) has the length of 6-10 pages. On average 16.6 references were cited by the each article during the period of investigation with total references 913.
