“A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF JEEVANIYAGANA GHRITA TARPAN AND SAPTAMRUT LOHA ABHYANTAR SEVAN IN MANAGEMENT OF DRY EYE SYNDROME W.S.R. TO SHUSHKAKSHIPAKA-PILOT STUDY”

Abstract


Ashru-tear secretion is an integral component of the ocular surface physiology; when compromised lead to dry eye syndrome. Local, systemic and environmental factors play a major role in its pathogenesis. Currently People in society use Computers, laptop, Tablet phone, Mobile phone and also shifting duties of Job causes the Dry Eye Syndrome. Prevalence of Dry Eye Syndrome varies 18.4% to 40.8% all over the world1 . If Dry Eye Syndrome remains untreated leads to severe complications like corneal ulcer which may leads to blindness. Most of the symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome are similar to lakshanas of  Shushkakshipaka in Ayurvedic literature.Vata & Pitta vitiation as per Ayurvedic view point are the major contributing pathological factors in its manifestation. Contrary to the available modern medical treatment or management regimen; Ayurveda propounds a systematic systemic or holistic treatment approach in the treatment of dry eye syndrome.

In Ashtang Hruday Jeevaniyagana Ghrita tarpan is mentioned in the treatment of Shushkakshipaka2 and Saptamrut loha is used in various Netraroga which are having symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome .So I preferred to study and compare Jeevaniygana Ghrita tarpan and Saptamrut loha in Dry Eye Syndrome.

In this pilot study an attempt has been made to highlight the view of ancient and modern science concerning conceptual understanding of etiology, diagnosis of dry eye syndrome and comparison of systemic and local Ayurvedic treatment. The present study has shown that the Jeevaniygana Ghrita tarpan and Saptamrut loha is highly valuable in the management of dry eye syndrome.
