Role of Probiotic supplementation on growth of Eudrilus eugeniae

Nutrition is an important factor that determines the maximum growth of an organism. Earthworms meet their nutritional requirement by feeding on organic matter and microbes. In the present study the earthworm Eudrilus eugeniae were grown on coffee powder waste supplemented with
Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Change in weight was recorded at every ten days. Food source influences not only size of population but also their growth and reproduction. Results are discussed in the light of probiotic supplementation on growth, which will result in obtaining better size increase, which will lead to enhanced biomass production and hence, increase the vermicomposting efficiency of earthworms and thereby enhance recycling of waste to reduce its accumulation, posing health hazards to human population.
