The Impact of Information and Communication Technology Resources on SMEs Performance: A Conceptual Framework

Abstract


The purpose of the study is to explore, provide understanding and framework on the use, dimensions and impact of ICT resources on the performance of SMEs. The study reviewed the extant literature on the use, benefits and impact of ICT resources. After reviewing the literature, the study found that the ICT resources can be used as general oriented, communication oriented, market-oriented, administrative oriented, production oriented, operation oriented, learning-oriented, and knowledge management oriented ICT resources to enhance the competitive advantage and to achieve superior SMEs performance. These resulted to series of hypotheses proposed in the study. Therefore, the study suggested that future studies should empirically test the framework in different settings to validate the propositions in the study.
