A STUDY OF CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT AND STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION IN LEARNING SCIENCE

Abstract


The importance of science in the school curriculum is beyond any doubt across the globe today. The tradition of science and science education in India has a very long way it has evolved through. Still, there is a genuine need of excelling in science education if we have to compete with and stand amongst the world leaders. Though the governmental efforts to expand the science education across country has been quite substantial, yet there are certain niceties related to science classroom environment, students’ motivation and their achievement in science that need to be taken care of seriously. In the last decades students’ interests towards taking up science as a career has not gained the desired momentum. In science classrooms, students tend to lose interests and aspire for taking up other options.   

 

This paper presents the outcome of an investigatory study which was conducted to study the various dimensions and aspects of science classroom environment and nature of students’ motivation in the school context. It also examined the relationship between science classroom environment and students’ motivation towards science discipline amongst secondary level school students
